Request for leave of absence

Two consecutive semesters on leave of absence may be taken with no problems.

However, an additional semester’s leave of absence is subject to a special request (see below) and must be approved.

Procedure

See the web page “Apply for leave of absence”. Grounds for the request must be communicated via to the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar’s Office will check the request and communicate the decision by email.

Until a decision is reached, no changes (apart from address changes) should be made. In particular, the student should not undertake enrolment.

Please note

  • All academic deadlines continue to apply even if a student enrols for a semester’s leave.
  • It must be ascertained whether programme deadlines (maximum permitted duration of studies, etc.) can be adhered to despite the leave of absence.
  • If the leave of absence is associated with a change of degree programme, the Registrar’s Office must be informed of this by email.
  • Semester fees are waived during the leave of absence, except compulsary and any voluntary fees.
  • Any course units attended during the leave of absence will incur a semester charge.
    The cost will be based on the number of registered semester hours.
    However, the amount charged during the leave of absence will not exceed the sum charged for normal semester fees.
