1. Required documents for Mobility-Online (research fellowship)
After the confirmation of your scholarship, the next step is your application in Mobility Online.
During your one-year research stay at ETH Zurich, your official status will be that of a research fellow. To be matriculated under this status, you need to complete the online application in Mobility-Online.
Details on the required documents are provided below. All documents must be in PDF format, except for the photo.
You must upload a photo of yourself in portrait format, which will be used for your ETH student card.
When choosing a photo:
- Recently taken
- Good quality image: full-?face, well-?lit, neutral background.
- Maximum of 800 x 600 pixels (height x width) and 1 MB
- You must upload a scan of your valid passport: page(s) with your photo and personal details (name, date of birth) only. EU/EFTA citizens may also upload a scan of their identity card instead.
- The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the official end date of your scholarship stay.
- If you have two nationalities, upload a scan of both passports as one merged PDF file.
- This document is only required from scholarship holders already living in Switzerland before the start of the scholarship.
- Upload a scan of your Swiss residence permit back and front side.
- Upload the invitation letter from your ETH professor or your supervisor at Eawag, Empa, PSI, WSL (the one you used to apply for the FCS scholarship).
- Upload a complete official transcript of records in English or German of all your studies to date including Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. If available, the transcript should contain a grading key / legend explaining the grading system of your home university.
- If you are currently enrolled in a doctoral programme at your home university, either upload further transcripts of records in English or German for the doctorate and/or a confirmation of enrolment in your doctoral degree programme. If neither is available, make sure the details of your enrolment in a doctoral programme are included in your CV.
Upload a scan of the letter (German and English).
Upload a scan of the confirmation you sent to FCS to confirm your scholarship.
Upload a current curriculum vitae (CV) in English or German.

2. Mobility-Online applicationIf you conduct your project at a research institute
- You will need to register twice: once with the Student Exchange Office and once with your research institute.
- Your research institute will contact you and ask you to register with them. This second registration process is in addition to the one via Mobility-?Online. The Mobility-?Online process is described on the following pages.
