Science and SciLifeLab Young Scientists Prize for Florian Schmidt

For his work in developing Record-?seq, a breakthrough technology that records the interactions of microbiota in the gut non invasively and thus further the understanding of gastrointestinal health, D-?BSSE postdoctoral researcher Florian Schmidt from the Platt group is the grand prize winner of the 2022 Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists. Congratulations, Florian, on receiving another great award for your research!
Award honours Andreas Hierlemann for his efforts in promoting entrepreneurship

With the Dandelion Entrepreneurship Award, the ETH Entrepreneur Club and ETH AI Center recognise faculty members who “encourage talented people to take a leap into the market”. Nominated by ETH students, PhDs and Post-? Docs, Andreas Hierlemann receives the prize in 2022 in the D-?BSSE. Well deserved: since 2008, the spinoff companies Zurich Instruments, InSphero, Shift Cryptosecurity, Validity Labs, and Maxwell Biosystems originated from his Bio Engineering lab. Congratulations, Andreas!

The doctoral student at the Department of Biosystems developed an in vitro process that tests new medications for adverse effects on embryos. Now she has been honoured with a top international prize for alternatives to animal testing.
