Professor or Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Mathematics and Didactics of Higher Education*

The Department of Mathematics (www.math.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position.

Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent research record and a proven ability to direct research work in mathematics of highest quality. Willingness to participate in collaborative work both within and outside the school is expected. The new professor will be responsible, together with other members of the department, for teaching undergraduate (German or English) and graduate level courses (English) for students of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering. We expect candidates to have experience through studies, projects, publications and/or collaborations in the field of didactics of university mathematics. They should show a strong commitment to taking the leading role in the department in curriculum development and in the implementation of innovative teaching methods and technologies.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to that of other top international universities.

This is why you are kindly asked to submit a short description of your three most important achievements (maximum a half page each). Besides research findings, these could also be extraordinary achievements in teaching and its further development, services in the benefit of the academic community or society, software development, patents, knowledge transfer and its practical application, spin-off companies or similar.

Please note: For assistant professors, an appointment at an early stage in the career is sought. When comparing the performance of candidates, the respective academic net age as the period since the doctoral examination that was spent for scientific work is taken into account. This period should not exceed eight years at the time of application.
