Renewal of residence permit

As an employee from another country, you need a residence permit which must always be renewed before it expires. You will receive the form ?Notice of expiry? from the registration office at your place of residence. The procedure depends on your nationality:

For nationals of EU-27 and EFTA countries

To renew your residence permit you must register in person at the registration office where you are living. You will need a valid employment contract.

For nationals of other countries

For nationals of non-EU-27 and non-EFTA countries, the procedure for extending your residence permit is regulated as follows:

1. You will receive the form ¡°Notice of expiry¡± from the registration office. 
2. You will require confirmation from your employer. The HR Administration will be happy to provide this to you. Please send us the form by post (ETH Zurich, HR Administration, Binzm¨¹hlestrasse 130, 8092 Zurich) or by email to your HR administrator.
3. You submit the documents to the registration office in your place of residence or to your local authority.
4. Once you have received your residence permit, upload a copy to ETHIS.

Please note: Your residence permit can only be renewed if your employment contract with ETH is still valid or has been extended accordingly.
