SEMP Europe projects & traineeships
The Swiss-?European Mobility Programme (SEMP) supports projects and traineeships in Europe.
Application deadline
- Two months before the stay begins.
- You must submit the application in full, i.e. with all documents. Therefore, plan enough time to have the "Learning Agreement for Traineeships / Projects" signed by both parties (ETH and host institution).
- The project or traineeship must be part of your studies.
- Duration of funding
- Full-time projects/traineeships up to 30 ECTS and a duration from 2 to 6 months (60 to 180 days) can be funded per study level (Bachelor / Master) via SEMP projects & traineeships (Europe and worldwide). Irrespective of this maximum funding, your stay can last 12 months.
- A maximum of 6 months (180 days) per study level (Bachelor / Master) can be funded via SEMP projects & traineeships.
- Your project or traineeship can be funded for a maximum of 12 months (360 days) per study level (Bachelor / Master) with SEMP scholarship funds (including SEMP exchange). Multiple applications per study level are possible, provided that the maximum number of days (360 days) is adhered to. The maximum duration (360 days) applies per study level.
- Traineeships found and supervised by other traineeship organisations (e.g. IAESTE) cannot be additionally funded by SEMP projects & traineeships.
- If you receive remuneration from your employer, it must not exceed CHF 2000 per month including this scholarship.
- The project or traineeship must be full-time (in accordance with the labour law of the host destination).
- You must clarify whether your host university requires a language certificate. The Student Exchange Office will provide an informal language confirmation for English level C1 if you have declared an adequate language level in your application. You must check independently whether your host university accepts this confirmation.
- You must respect the principles.
The host organisation (company, research institute) can be freely chosen as long as it is located in one of the Erasmus+ programme countries.
Amount
The monthly scholarship amounts to CHF 440. The actual scholarship amount depends on the exact duration of the project/internship (maximum 180 days). To calculate the actual scholarship, use the formula: Number of days × (440 / 30).
Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive a scholarship award, provided that sufficient funds are still available. Scholarship funds are awarded according to the date of receipt of the complete (!) application.
The first instalment, amounting to 80% of the total scholarship, will be transferred at the beginning of the exchange semester. The remaining amount will be transferred with the second instalment at the end of your exchange semester.
You can apply for a top-up for an environmentally friendly travel method.
Studying with a disability
You can apply to Movetia through ETH for additional financial means to cover part of any additional costs incurred during your stay. Contact the Student Exchange Office at least four months before the start of your stay if you wish to submit a corresponding application.
You can apply for a top-up of CHF 100 for travel to and from ETH by train, bus and / or ferry. The top-up will be added to the normal scholarship with the final payment.
The prerequisite is that you upload travel receipts for the outbound or inbound journey to Mobility-Online at the end of your mobility. (Only upload the receipts for one journey). The receipt must contain your name, date of travel and the departure and arrival location.
