How can you prepare for a career at the interface between science and policy? In the Science and Policy Talk series, professionals working in different roles at the interface between science and policy explain how they contribute to linking science and policy and give us insights in their career pathway.

Mialy Rann is a human geographer. She holds a PhD in geography, specialized in political ecology, from the University of Lausanne. She has hands-on experience in various interface work, including as an advisor to NGOs and her home government, as well as being an expert within the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). She is currently leading the capacity-building program of the Geneva Science-Policy Interface, a platform based at the University of Geneva with the mandate to facilitate collaborations between researchers and United Nations agencies in Geneva.

In this talk, Mialy Rann will speak about the elements to consider when one wants to conduct policy-relevant research and engage with policy actors. She will also talk about her career trajectory and how she leveraged her education to identify opportunities for engagement at the science-policy interface. Furthermore, she will give insights into job prospects at the interface of science and policy and resources to build capacity in the field.
