Minute's silence for the victims of Crans-Montana

Guy Parmelin, president of the Swiss Confederation, has announced a nationwide minute's silence at 2 p.m. on Friday, 9 January 2026, in memory of the victims of the fire in Crans-Montana. The Executive Board asks ETH members to discuss in advance how they would like to observe this moment within their team or unit.

Discovery in Proteomic Sciences Award for Bernd Wollscheid

Systems biologist Bernd Wollscheid has been honoured for his discoveries in the field of proteomics. The award, presented by the Human Proteome Organisation, recognises his pioneering work in decoding the ‘surfaceome’ – the totality of all proteins on the cell surface.

Konrad Schindler named IEEE Fellow
Honours and prizes
Konrad Schindler, Professor of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at ETH Zurich, has been named Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), effective 1 January 2026. The honour recognises his contributions to computer vision and artificial intelligence in photogrammetry and remote sensing. IEEE Fellow is the organisation’s highest grade and is awarded annually to only 0.1% of its members worldwide.
