New design for the ETH app

The official ETH app has been given a new design. In addition to the fresh look, it presents itself with an up-to-date user experience and some technical innovations.

If you want to search for contact details of ETH members, need to find your way around a campus, require some menu inspiration for lunch today or if you are simply interested in news and events at ETH, the ETH app for smartphones is your best bet.

Design changes in detail

The design is now based on ETH Zurich's current corporate design. Another advance is the improved digital accessibility. The implemented optimisations enable all users to use the app as barrier-free as possible. In addition, a dark mode ("night mode", in which light text and control elements are used on a dark background) has been introduced, which increases visual comfort when using the app e.g. in dark surroundings. Images of the individual menus are now also available for the catering offer (if entered) and the filter options have been simplified.

State-of-the-art technology

The redesign of the app also goes hand in hand with other important technological updates. A central concern was to bring the app up to the latest state of the art. The previous code base for iOS and Android operating systems was outdated and required a fundamental overhaul to enable smooth operation and future developments. Corporate Communications successfully achieved this in close cooperation with an external development partner.
