Maths fun for all ages: ‘Kangaroo Open’ launched at ETH
More than six million school pupils worldwide take part in the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition every year. The competition is now also available for adults: under the name ‘International Kangaroo Open’, it is now open to all age groups.
The first edition of the ‘International Kangaroo Open’ launched on 19 March. Until 19 April 2026, members of ETH Zurich have the opportunity to take part in the competition and test their skills against other mathematics enthusiasts.
The competition is offered in two categories: ‘Kangaroo’ and ‘Kangaroo PRO’. Both versions consist of 24 multiple-choice questions each, with the level of difficulty increasing across three levels. The more difficult the question, the more points are given. Participants have a maximum of 60 minutes to complete the tasks. The time can not be paused. The score achieved is displayed immediately upon completion, and it is possible to do both versions.
After the competition ends, all participants receive a detailed scoring report. This shows how they performed in comparison to others – both within their chosen category and at national and international level. Additionally, the questions can be printed out afterwards.
What can you win? No prizes, but plenty of fun solving puzzles and the satisfaction of working on the same mathematical brainteasers alongside people from all over the world.
