The first campaign of the ETH Net Zero programme is dedicated to the precious resources that we consume every day, mostly without realising it. “Resources Are Precious” shows us the little things that we can all do to contribute to a resource-conserving and climate-friendly university.
Straight track from Zurich to Sofia

At the end of July 2024, ETH climate researcher Sonia Seneviratne travelled by train from Zurich to Sofia, Bulgaria, to attend the 61st plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). She was able to stay ‘on the ground’ for her outward journey thanks to the commitment of her administrative assistant, Rahel Buri, who played a key role in organising Sonia's trip.
"Silver" and "Gold" for sustainable and inclusive events at ETH

19 ETH labs certified by GreenLabs for their sustainability efforts!

Over the last months, laboratories at ETH had the opportunity to participate in the GreenLabs pilot and drive sustainability efforts in their lab practices. End of January 2024, the first certification ceremony of the pilot took place, awarding 19 labs for their progress. ETH GreenLabs will be further rolled out with the goal to review all labs at ETH.

At the end of September, the consultation process for the draft roadmap "ETH Net Zero" came to an end. ETH Sustainability draws a positive conclusion with over 250 participations and around 500 constructive comments and remarks.
Optimisation of the ETH printer landscape - our contribution to sustainability

We aim for our printer landscape to be sustainable and cost-efficient. Currently, around 1800 trees are used up by printing at ETH every year and 80 tons of greenhouse gas emissions are emitted. It is interesting to note that a personal printer has a three times greater impact on the environment than an infrastructure printer. Therefore, it is time to act!
