From 1 October: Enter your CV details on MyContact

In a few weeks, MyContact will be launched. This new online platform replaces the previous ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ and contains not only address details and information on mailings, but also your personal CV. The latter must be transferred manually when the new platform is released.

In brief

  • The MyContact online platform will be available to all ETH members from 1 October 2025. From the beginning of December 2025, it will replace the previous ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ platform.
  • While much of the information, such as addresses and mailing preferences, will be transferred automatically, CVs will have to be entered manually into the new tool.
  • Thanks to the standardised recording of CV data, CVs will in future be displayed uniformly on all websites linked to MyContact.

Anyone who currently logs into the online platform Addresses and Personal Data will find a lot of information about themselves there: personal data such as date of birth and OASI number, office and home address and – for those ETH members who have entered it – information about their personal CV.

However, it is precisely this information that has often posed a problem in recent times: In addition to entering CV data on ‘Addresses and Personal Data’, the ETH Zurich content management system AEM also offered extensions for various personal profiles.

This division of CV data entry into ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ and the use of AEM proved to be confusing and prone to errors. In addition, CVs on ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ were designed and structured in very different ways, which was not conducive to a uniform online presence for ETH members.

CV data is now entered and edited under ‘CV and other data’.
Until now, ETH members have entered their CV details on ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ (see image). From 1 October, CV details will be entered on MyContact.

A uniform presence with MyContact

For this reason, the online platform MyContact will be launched on 1 October 2025. It will enable staff and lecturers to enter, maintain and uniformly structure CV information centrally. MyContact is also intended to be more intuitive to use than the previous ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ system.

However, ETH members will initially need to make some effort to re-enter their CV data on MyContact.

What you need to do to migrate to MyContact

First, the good news: all data entered in ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ under the tabs ‘Personal and Communication Data’, ‘Addresses’ and ‘Deliveries’ will be automatically transferred to MyContact. This means you do not need to do anything to transfer data such as your office or home address or your OASI number.

The situation is different for CVs: MyContact provides a standardised input mask for CV data. However, as this CV data has previously been entered in very different ways in ‘Addresses and Personal Data’, it cannot be automatically transferred to MyContact.

For this reason, all authorised ETH members – both employees and lecturers – are requested to re-enter their CVs in MyContact between 1 October and the beginning of December 2025 if they wish to publish them, as the display of CV texts is and remains voluntary.

From 1 October 2025, you will be able to enter and edit the following CV details yourself on MyContact:

  • Profile picture
  • CV in up to four languages (including biography, research area, projects, professional experience, publications, awards and honours, and memberships)
  • Personal short URL to your CV website
  • Links to your social media profiles

Transition period until early December 2025

Between 1 October and the beginning of December 2025, CV data must therefore be transferred manually to MyContact. The ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ platform will remain open during this transition period. From the beginning of December 2025, only CV data entered in MyContact will be displayed on the ETH Zurich websites.

Anyone who misses this deadline will still be able to access their entries in ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ in a read-only version until the end of the first quarter of 2026. The CV data contained therein can no longer be changed, but can still be copied and transferred to MyContact.

Reducing complexity

Despite all its advantages, MyContact also has certain limitations. Unlike the ‘Addresses and Personal Data’ platform, it will no longer be possible to integrate manually created tables, videos or images (with the exception of profile pictures) into MyContact. In addition, the length of individual text fields is limited to 16,000 characters.

‘We are aware that some ETH members will regret these limitations,’ admits Andreas Jost, project manager at ETH IT Services. ‘However, in order to ensure that the CV web pages of all ETH members meet the same criteria in future, certain restrictions are unfortunately necessary. We therefore recommend that all particularly complex or detailed CVs be carefully reviewed and simplified wherever possible. However, those who find this difficult still have the option of uploading a PDF file to MyContact.’
