ETH logo
The ETH logo represents the ETH Zurich brand, strengthens its visual identity and enjoys legal protection as a registered trademark. Its use is subject to binding requirements within and outside ETH Zurich Corporate Design (ETH-CD).
“If ETH is part of it, ETH must be shown”
The ETH logo may only be used if this use is intended to indicate a demonstrably institutional connection to ETH Zurich and is not commercial. Such a connection exists in particular if contents, projects or activities are initiated, funded,executed or officially supported by ETH Zurich. The following conditions apply:
- Official contents of ETH Zurich are marked as such with the ETH logo.
- The ETH logo may not be used for contents that are not connected institutionally.
Brand architecture
ETH Zurich is the umbrella brand that is visually represented by the ETH logo.
No proprietary logos are envisaged for the organisational units; instead, they appear with the ETH logo and their name written out in full. Should a proprietary logo nevertheless be used, it is positioned subordinately to the ETH logo.
Combinations of the ETH logo and use of the “ETH” acronym with other
logos or lettering are only permitted in exceptional cases and with the
approval of .
Appearance of the ETH logo
Components:
- “ETH” acronym in predefined typographic design
- Supplement “zürich” in lower case
The sole use of the “ETH” acronym (e.g. for social media, merchandising) is only permitted with the approval of Corporate Communications.
Variants:
- ETH logo in black – positive variant (for bright backgrounds)
- ETH logo in white – negative variant (for dark backgrounds)

Positioning of the ETH logo
Within ETH-CD:
Use of the ETH logo within ETH-CD is clearly defined. The ETH logo is always positioned at the top left on communication tools within ETH-CD.
Outside ETH-CD:
The ETH logo has a protection zone from all other graphic elements and from the margin. This minimum distance amounts to one height of the ETH acronym (letter E) on all sides:
Logo combinations
University partnership
Logos of other universities may stand alongside the ETH logo within the framework of an equalpartnership. They are displayed in the same optical size.
The distance between the logos is fixed and corresponds to the height of the letter E in the “ETH” acronym. Further university partners are added to the right according to the same principle.
Profile image for official ETH channels:
The black-on-white “ETH” acronym is reserved for official ETH channels. The minimum distance from the margin for obtaining optimum presence and readability is two-thirds of the height of the acronym.
Profile images for social media channels of organisational units:
Organisational units use a combination of the “ETH” acronym and their name or icon.
