Job registration requirement

Since 1 July 2018, employers have been legally obliged to notify the regional employment agency (RAV) of vacancies in occupations that reach or exceed a specified annual average of unemployment rate for Switzerland as a whole.

The job may only be publicly advertised after a waiting period of five working days. This allows individuals registered with an RAV as job seekers to have an advantage in terms of information and applications, thereby better utilizing the potential of the domestic labor force.

On external page this website you will find further information and a list of the professions affected by the job registration requirement.

Process

  1. The Recruiting team verifies each position for the registration requirement before publishing it.
  2. If the position is notifiable, the recruiting team reports it to the responsible RAV and informs the hiring managers of all subsequent steps.
  3. A publication ban of five working days applies to registered positions, starting on the working day after receipt of the RAV confirmation. During this period, the position will only be posted on the RAV job portal and optionally on the internal job market of ETH Zurich.
  4. Within these five working days, the RAV can suggest suitable candidates from their jobseeker pool. The recruiting team will forward these dossiers to the hiring managers by email and ensure that feedback is provided to the RAV. There is no obligation to provide reasons, only an obligation to notify.
  5. After the deadline has expired, the recruiting team will advertise the position on the usual platforms.
